Cops: Middle School Students Plotted To Bake Pot Cookies In Home Economics Class
A quartet of 13-year-old middle school students is facing criminal charges after Iowa cops broke up their plans to bake marijuana-laced cookies during a home economics class.
Administrators at Edward Stone Middle School in Burlington contacted police Tuesday after learning from other pupils that “marijuana was being distributed on the campus and was being utilized as a cooking ingredient in Home Economics classes,” according to cops.
Southeast Iowa Narcotics Task Force officers subsequently determined that “marijuana was being delivered between students on their bus ride to school in the morning, as well as between classes on school grounds.”
When school officials learned of the pot cookie plot, they “were proactive in locating cooking items that showed evidence of marijuana being present before they were passed on to students or staff,” investigators noted. The marijuana had been placed inside cookie dough that was set to be baked in class on Wednesday.
The four students--all boys--were arrested yesterday and later released from custody. Two of the students were charged with felony delivery of a controlled substance, while the two other teens are each facing a misdemeanor drug possession count. All four will be tried in juvenile court.
