Prosecutors Decline Charges Against Artist Arrested For Wearing "Bomb Watch" In Oakland Airport
California prosecutors have declined to pursue criminal charges against a man who was arrested last week at the Oakland airport for wearing a homemade watch that Transportation Security Administration agents mistook for a bomb component.
The watch, pictured in the above police evidence photo, was seized from artist Geoffrey McGann, 49, after he placed the item through an X-ray machine at a security checkpoint. Click here for another photo of the timepiece.
McGann was arrested Thursday night on a felony charge of suspicion of possessing bomb-making material and booked into the Alameda County jail. He was freed Saturday after posting $150,000 bail.
According to McGann’s lawyer, the watch, designed to look like a trigger switch, was a harmless art piece--and should have been recognized as such by TSA officials.
