Cops Say They Busted Guy Who Stole TV From Target And Made Skateboard Getaway
Police today arrested a Florida man who investigators allege stole a flat-screen TV from a Target store and made his getaway on a skateboard.
David Ahmaal Aziz Kennedy, 30, was charged with armed robbery and booked into the Pinellas County Jail, where he is locked up in lieu of $50,000 bond.
Store surveillance video (seen above) recorded the thief arriving at the Target store in Clearwater minutes before its 11 PM closing on January 15. After grabbing the boxed 32” TV--valued at about $350--the man skated toward one of the store’s exits (which happened to be closed). Before running through a second exit, the thief allegedly brandished a knife when approached by store employees.
Jail records show that Kennedy, pictured in the adjacent mug shot, has a lengthy rap sheet, including arrests for drug possession, robbery, domestic battery, and “sale of imitation crack cocaine.” In fact, Kennedy was arrested for grand theft on January 9 and released from custody the day before the Target heist.
Investigators noted that while Kennedy has not copped to the TV theft, he did tell detectives that he viewed the surveillance video after a friend told him about the footage (which was broadcast on local TV stations and uploaded to numerous web sites, including the Clearwater Police Department’s Facebook page).
