JULY 7--Citing a long string of extramarital affairs, the estranged wife of baseball star Alex Rodriguez today filed for divorce and is seeking alimony and shared custody of the couple's two children.
Lawyers for Cynthia Rodriguez, 35, this morning filed this complaint in Miami-Dade Circuit Court in Florida, where the couple owns a $12 million waterfront estate. Despite recent press reports about the 32-year-old athlete's relationship with Madonna, the document makes no mention of the pop singer.
According to Cynthia Rodriguez, the New York Yankees star has engaged in a series of affairs since the pair's November 2002 marriage.
The couple has two children, the youngest of which was born ten weeks ago. Rodriguez is baseball's highest-paid player, having signed a 10-year, $275 million deal with the Yankees in the off-season. (5 pages)
