AUGUST 9--A civilian employee has admitted placing a video camera in a women’s bathroom at an Air Force base in Colorado, court records show.
Brian Spann, 23, last week pleaded guilty to a federal invasion of privacy charge in U.S. District Court in Denver. Spann copped to placing a video recording device in a women’s restroom at Buckley Air Force Base in Aurora. His surreptitious filming scheme collapsed in late-May, when a woman “noticed device, confronted Spann and notified her supervisor,” according to a probable cause affidavit.
In return for Spann’s plea, prosecutors dropped a voyeurism charge leveled against him in a misdemeanor criminal information. Court documents do not disclose how long Spann had been secretly recording women (or how successful his operation was).
Spann, pictured at left, is scheduled to be sentenced October 13. His plea deal calls for a suspended jail sentence and a one year probation term. Additionally, he must undergo any treatment or therapy recommended by probation officials.
Spann, operating from Building 1022 at Buckley, worked as a recreation assistant responsible for, among other things, arranging outdoor adventure trips, according to a story on Buckley’s web site. (5 pages)
