Woman Busted After Buss Bid Goes Bust
Cops: Floridian battered girlfriend over kisses
AUGUST 5--Angered that her kiss attempts were rebuffed, a woman battered her girlfriend early today during a confrontation in the couple’s Florida apartment, police charge.
Shantrell Owens, 24, was booked into jail around 3 AM following her arrest for misdemeanor domestic battery. Owens, seen at right, is being held in lieu of $1500 bond.
Owens’s girlfriend told cops that the duo--who have been together for seven years--first tangled earlier in the night at another residence. The victim said that Owens “became upset” and pushed her to the ground when “she would not kiss her.”
Upon returning to their Vero Beach home, Owens again went to kiss her girlfriend. A friend of the couple, Meka Mitchell, told police that the victim “pulled away and told [Owens] to stop.” In response to the rejection, Mitchell added, Owens struck the victim and “knocked her to the bed.”
A combative Owens declared, “Take me to jail,” while an officer sought to interview the victim and Mitchell.
In addition to the battery count, Owens was also charged with resisting without violence, a misdemeanor. She is scheduled for a September 1 court appearance. (2 pages)
