So you're a rock and roll star accused of a drunken rampage on an international flight and you need a character witness to vouch for your peaceful ways. Since Mother Teresa was out of the question, R.E.M.guitarist Peter Buck settled for the next best thing, U2's Bono. The singer/statesman, who took the stand in Isleworth Crown Court on March 25, described Buck as a committed family man who only drank in moderation. Prosecutors allege that the musician, fueled by a ton of red wine, caused a ruckus on a British Airways flight to London in April 2001. While TSG salutes Bono (aka Paul Hewson) for his admirable work on debt reduction issues and the Irish peace accords, we think he's guilty of slinging a little blarney with that testimony about how "most people that are in bands don't drink if they're serious and professional about what they do."
