Yes, 20-year-old Zachary Chesser was such a criminal novice that he basically talked himself into a federal charge of providing material support to a terrorist organization.

But the kid knew enough, as the FBI reported in a court affidavit, to trim his unruly beard before attempting to travel to Somalia, where he hoped to fight alongside the mujahideen.
