Cops: Arrested McDonald's Worker Sweetened Patrons’s Tea With His Own Phlegm

A McDonald’s worker was arrested yesterday for spitting into the tea of two South Carolina customers who returned their drinks because they were not sufficiently sweet, according to police,

Marvin Washington, Jr. was charged with malicious food tampering, a felony, in connection with the incident Saturday at the restaurant in Simpsonville.

According to an arrest warrant, “bodily fluid (spat) was found in two sweet teas” purchased by the victims (a 33-year-old woman and her 13-year-old daughter). When a Greenville County Sheriff’s Office deputy reviewed surveillance video from the eatery, Washington was observed “filling up and serving the teas.”

The video also showed the 19-year-old Washington “leaning his face down to the drinks before filling them with tea.”

The victims--a mother and daughter who bought the teas at the drive-thru window--discovered the tampering when they arrived home and opened the containers to add more sugar. That it when they discovered phlegm floating atop both drinks.

Washington, pictured in the above mug shot, was booked yesterday into the Greenville County jail. He was freed after posting $5000 bond. If convicted of the tampering count, he faces a maximum of 20 years in prison.
