In the face of calls for his resignation, Cardinal Bernard Law today (4/12) announced that he will not step down as archbishop of Boston. In this letter to fellow priests, Law states that he is "determined to provide the strongest leadership possible" as the church confronts the growing scandal of sexual abuse committed by clergy members. Law, 70, has been roundly criticized for his handling (some might say covering up) of previous allegations made against dozens of Boston priests, including convicted sex predator Rev. John Geoghan.
