Henry Kissinger Quits 9/11 Commission

This is the resignation letter submitted to the White House today (12/13) by Henry Kissinger, who stepped down as chairman of the independent panel investigating the September 11 attacks. The former Secretary of State, who was named to head the panel on November 27, cited the growing controversy over potential conflicts involving his consulting company. While Kissinger noted that these "specific potential conflicts can be resolved in this manner, the controversy would quickly move to the consulting firm I have built and own." He added, "I have, therefore, concluded that I cannot accept the responsibility you proposed." (2 pages)
