Kobe Accuser To Be Named

OCTOBER 7--The woman who accused Kobe Bryant of rape will have to use her real name, not a pseudonym, in the civil case she has filed against the NBA star, a federal judge has ruled. "Public confidence in the results of court proceedings require that they be open to observation," Judge Richard Matsch wrote in the below order filed in U.S. District Court in Denver. "The parties appear as equals before the court and that fundamental principle must be protected throughout these proceedings." The woman's lawsuit, now captioned Jane Doe v. Kobe Bryant, will be retitled on October 20, Matsch ordered, with her real name being substituted for the pseudonym on court filings. When the complaint against Bryant was filed in August, the woman's lawyers sought permission for her to proceed anonymously, citing concerns about the 20-year-old's safety and privacy.
