Charles Rose, a former federal prosecutor and a friend of The Smoking Gun, died this week after a long illness. He was 51. A cop's son, Charles made his bones nailing terrorists, drug traffickers, and wiseguys. But to us, he was a classic New York City character: funny, urbane, acerbic, and generous with his time and expertise. We think this FBI report of an interview with a murderous Mafia soldier shows how Charles had the marvelous knack of nettling the nefarious. (1 page)
