DECEMBER 29--Former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson was arrested early this morning on cocaine possession and driving under the influence charges following a police stop outside an Arizona nightclub.
Tyson, 40, was pulled over when his BMW nearly struck a sheriff's cruiser after he left a Scottsdale bar around 1:45 AM. When he failed field sobriety tests, the pugilist was arrested for driving under the influence. A subsequent search turned up two small bags of cocaine in Tyson's pocket and another bag in his car.
According to a probable cause statement filed in Superior Court, Tyson admitted to officers in a post-arrest interview that he had been "using" cocaine and "stated he is an addict and has a problem." Tyson also reportedly told a deputy that he "uses any time he can get his hands on it." He was booked into the Maricopa County Sheriff's lockup, where these mug shots were snapped.
This is the second time Tyson has been arrested in Scottsdale. In December 2004, he was charged with misdemeanor criminal damage for jumping on the hood of a stranger's car outside a bar. An inebriated Tyson was screaming at the auto's driver while perched (on his hands and knees) on the vehicle's hood. (2 pages)
