JUNE 16--Though Donald Trump has incorrectly claimed that Orlando gunman Omar Mateen was born in Afghanistan, the killer’s birth certificate shows that, like Trump, he was born in Queens, New York and actually spent two years living a stone’s throw from the presumptive Republican presidential candidate’s family mansion.
Mateen’s birth certificate was included in documents released this afternoon by Florida’s Department of Corrections, where the murderer was employed as a guard for about six months before he was dismissed in April 2007 during his probationary period. It remains unclear why Mateen was terminated.
Mateen’s birth certificate shows that he was born in November 1986 at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in Queens. At the time, his parents lived in an apartment building at 73-07 153rd Street in Flushing.
According to Florida court records, Mateen lived in Queens for about two years before his family relocated to a private home in Westbury on Long Island.
Mateen’s Queens residence was about two miles from the Trump family’s longtime home on Midland Parkway in nearby Jamaica Estates.
The Department of Corrections records also include loyalty oaths sworn by Mateen, who pledged to support the U.S. Constitution and “ensure the public safety.”
Other documents show that Mateen--who used the e-mail address [email protected] an assortment of prior employers, including Gold’s Gym, Walgreens, Circuit City, Publix, Hollister, and Chick-fil-A.
Application records reveal that Mateen disclosed that he “experimented marijuana when I was a juvenile.” In a handwritten “Letter of explanation,” Mateen described a teenage arrest for fighting with another student in a high school math class.
