"Bored" Teens Shot 275 Cars With BB Guns

JANUARY 27--A pair of Florida teenagers arrested yesterday for damaging 275 vehicles in a BB gun shooting spree that caused in excess of $100,000 in damages told police that they carried out the vandalism because they were “bored.”

Evan Salas, 19, and Brandon Smith, 18, were collared for a rampage through three cities in Pinellas County. The men--who shot up cars Friday night into Saturday morning--were each charged with felony criminal mischief, according to arrest affidavits.

When confronted by Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office investigators, Salas and Smith reportedly copped to damaging cars and trucks in Belleair Bluffs, Largo, and Seminole. Asked why they would engage in such behavior, investigators noted, the pair explained they were “bored."

According to police, Smith and Salas were both armed with newly purchased CO2-powered BB guns and took turns “randomly shooting at vehicles” from Smith’s car. Following his arrest, Smith admitted “shooting out windows of unoccupied vehicles,” according to an arrest affidavit. Salas made a similar confession, admitting his involvement with “35% to 40% of the shooting.”

Both men were booked Wednesday into the county jail. (2 pages)

If I didn't know better the NRA wanted to use these so called kids as poster kids for the group. This is akin to asking the GOP to use Bush & cheney as poster kids for the new GOP poster" "Torture is fun try it and you will like it"

this has nothing to do with imbreeding idk y people say it does. it has to do with that the fact that these to gents decided to shoot at others property cuz they were " bored' like honestly i get bored sometimes and im 17 but i dont take my paintball gun out and go around town shooting at things there is saying that my old man says " think before you go dead from the neck up'" like if they were bored go out buys some beer and shoot the cans it isnt that hard to invent something fun cuz we all can do that just some of us have better sense

18 years old and 19 years old are adults, not teens, though these two are incredibly stupid and immature adults. Then again, this is Florida, AGAIN, maybe they age differently in that state...due to inbreeding...or something in the water.

These two kids did wrong no excuse... why 270 cars....why they shot out windows....because they were bored...these two boys B Smith lives down the street,,,he is a great kid...never been in trouble...good student in high school...polite respectfull...there is something wrong with this picture...the car is a stick shift with no power steering....it would take a heck of a marksman to pull that off shooting while driving...out the window...I think B Smith may have drove the car but didn't shoot out those windows...he's just not that kind of kid....Evan bought the BB guns...Evan is a risk taker..a looser for sure...but your guilty by association,

It's not that hard to hit a car while driving. They could have stopped, slowed down, etc. Hitting a car with a bb gun at a few feet is like hitting the broadside of a barn... LOL

The car is a stick shift, with no power steering. Perhaps you missed that part of the comment or perhaps the fact that you don't drive makes those automotive designations foreign to you? I'm a fair shot but those are variable that would f**k with my aim.

I think you meant guilty by accessory since you couldn't actually be suggesting that a kid who drove around for hours while his friend shot out windows from the passenger seat of the car is innocent, right? Not to mention, the police report clearly states that this "great kid" signed a confession. The only thing that's wrong with this picture is the person who thinks that because someone is polite, respectful, and a good student they can't act like an immature moron when out with his friends.

About 3000 hours of community service plus a hefty fine sounds about right. Actually, the community service hours would be doing them a favor, right? They won't be bored.

Community service, a hefty fine AND paying for the damages. Working overtime flipping burgers will certainly keep them from being "bored" in the future.

275 cars shot with a bb gun and no one pulled out a real gun and went looking for some revenge? Son I am disappoint, gun laws are clearly too restrictive, and I thought Florida had some pretty lax gun control. But you know what really gets me is that these kids were "Bored". If they had dedicated a small fraction of their time and resources (they instead spent "bored") and did something more constructive and useful with their time, who knows what they could have accomplished? Hell, just spending a few hours a day in a gym working off all that fat could have bought them a lucrative job as bouncers, or at the very least extended their life by 30 more years. But how they are now? We used to kick the everliving sh*t out of fat-bodies like them in high school. Ah, the education system fails us again.
