World's Dumbest Fraudster Dodges Jail In Plea Deal
Floridian posed for photo holding purloined plastic
MAY 7--The dopey fraudster who willingly posed for a photo holding a stolen credit card will avoid jail time thanks to a deal struck with Florida prosecutors, court records show.
Marshanna Harris, 27, recently entered no contest pleas to a pair of felony credit card fraud charges stemming from a $500 shopping spree during which she used an American Express card owned by a 74-year-old woman.
A Circuit Court judge sentenced Harris to two years probation, ordered her to perform 100 hours of community service, and levied fines and court costs totaling $531. A May 4 restitution order requires Harris to pay for the fraudulent charges.
According to cops, Harris used the purloined plastic for purchases at a gas station, a Family Dollar store, and the Looking Good Beauty Supply shop in Ocala, where a cashier asked Harris to show him a government-issued identification card.
Harris, however, told store clerk Addel Kaasem that she did not have the requested ID. As detailed in an Ocala Police Department report, Kaasem told cops that he “did not feel comfortable” with the $430 transaction, so he “requested to take a photo of the subject with the card.”
Surprisingly, Harris agreed to the photo op. As seen in the above image, she smiled for Kaasem’s camera while holding the stolen credit card in her right hand.
After spending several months on the lam, Harris was apprehended by cops in late-November. Harris, who was subsequently freed on $5000 bond, has previously been collared for larceny, disorderly conduct, burglary, and resisting arrest. (2 pages)
