Driver Watching "Stranger Things" Before Crash
Cops: Teen drifted into oncoming lane, hit semi
JULY 12--A teenage driver was watching “Stranger Things” on her phone when her car drifted into the oncoming lane and collided with a semi-truck, according to Minnesota police who report that the teen escaped with minor injuries in the rollover crash.
Investigators say the teenager was driving over the weekend in a Minneapolis suburb when her vehicle crossed “the centerline directly into the path of the semitruck.” Witnesses told cops that, “the female's vehicle was fully in the oncoming lane before the crash,” according to the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office.
The semi’s driver swerved to the road’s shoulder, avoiding a head-on collision with the “Stranger Things” fan and “likely saving” the teen’s life, police say.
The teenager’s car hit the semi’s trailer and rolled over. While her vehicle suffered significant damage, she only received minor injuries.
During police questioning, the driver initially denied being on her phone at the time of the crash. However, after deputies noted that the auto’s Bluetooth system “was still streaming the audio to Stranger Things on Netflix,” the teenager “admitted to watching Netflix while driving.”
The teenager was cited for watching a video on her phone while driving. (1 page)
