Foreigner Affair

FEBRUARY 24--“Go back to your fucking country,” a Missouri man said before assaulting a Hispanic victim shopping at a supermarket, according to police who say the accused assailant told them he was “tired of foreigners, man.”

Investigators allege that Shawn Singer, 31, attacked the 35-year-old male victim inside the Dierbergs market in Creve Coeur, a St. Louis suburb. Singer, who lives a few blocks from the store, was arrested Friday evening and charged with assault motivated by discrimination, a felony.

As detailed in a court complaint, the victim told cops that as he passed Singer in an aisle, Singer mumbled something unintelligible. “Victim asked defendant if he had said something, and defendant said “Go back to your fucking country,” an officer reported.

Singer then “raised his fists, and swung them in victim’s direction.” After the man stumbled to the floor, Singer “struck him repeatedly in the face and upper body.” A bystander, cops say, tried to pull Singer off the victim, but failed. Singer only relented after being told police had been called.

After officers handcuffed Singer, he began spewing a litany of complaints about foreigners “walking all over the place, making our money cost so much more than it should.” During his post-arrest replacement theories, Singer said, “Don’t blame this on me, man, there’s people who are from other countries that are taking jobs away from us.”

Singer also complained of “fucking people trampling over us,” adding that he would next be “going to China to take them down because they were part of the Covid vaccine virus.”

Seen above, Singer is locked up in the county jail in lieu of $40,000 cash bail.

Singer is also facing a separate assault charge in connection with an incident late last year at a Walgreens in Creve Coeur. He is alleged to have squared up in a fighting stance and yelled threats at a victim. (2 pages)
