Cops: Man Shot Father, 74, Over "Stinky Feet" Jibe
Iowa man says he "accidentally" shot his parent
AUGUST 15--After being told by his 74-year-old father that he had “stinky feet,” an Iowa man retrieved a firearm from his bedroom and shot the elderly man in the face as he was seated in a motorized scooter, investigators allege.
Responding to a shots fired report Sunday evening, cops encountered David Carpenter, 48, at the residence he shares with the victim in Burlington, a southeast Iowa city.
The 6’, 300-pound David had called 911 “and stated that he had just shot his father William Carpenter in the face.”
William, who survived the gunfire, told officers that “he and his son were in an argument over David’s stinky feet,” a dispute “which escalated to David grabbing his gun from his bedroom and shooting William in the face.”
Questioned by police, David said he and his father were in the living room “when William told him that his feet stink.” During a subsequent “heated argument,” David claimed, his father “made a comment about shooting him.”
David said that he then got his gun and pointed it at his father’s face. He claimed that he then “accidentally” pulled the trigger.
At the time of the shooting, two children were in the living room watching TV.
Seen above, David was arrested for attempted murder and child endangerment. Locked up in the county jail, he is scheduled for an August 21 preliminary hearing and has been ordered by a judge to have no contact with the victim. (2 pages)
