Son Reported His Father For Child Porn

Illicit images were discovered on kin's cellphone, police say

JANUARY 31--A Florida Man who asked his son for help when he was locked out of his email account is facing 20 felony charges after the younger man contacted police to report discovering child pornography on his parent’s phone, according to police.

Investigators say that Gene Follin, 63, recently turned to his son Jared, a 30-year-old city planner, for assistance with his disabled Gmail account.

Follin’s account had been flagged by Google after the firm’s monitoring systems detected that it had been used to upload illicit images of children to Google Photos, the sharing and storage service.

According to felony complaints, Jared Follin informed police he found “child pornography on Gene’s cell phone after Gene needed help accessing his email.”

The resulting investigation--which included subpoenas, a search warrant, and cyber tips from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children--resulted in Tuesday’s arrest of Gene Follin for possession of child pornography.

Follin reportedly admitted to “saving child pornography” when questioned during a non-custodial police interview.

The search of Follin’s Google Photos drive yielded “952 files containing child pornography and child erotica,” police allege.
